Alaska Railroad's Whittier Subdivision is the railroad's connection between the small fishing town of Whittier and the rest of Alaska. The railroad get cars from barges that come into the Whitter dock.
The Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel is the only tunnel in all of North America where train and cars share the same right of way. Stretching 2.5 miles long, this is a very unique experience to drive through and see a train through. From this location you can see Eastbound trains exiting the tunnel on their final approach to Whittier yard / station.
